Position Title: Group Exercise Instructor
Community:  Adult Fitness
Supervisor:  Programs Director
FLSA Type:  Non-Exempt

1.      GENERAL FUNCTION
Instructs group exercise and/or related classes.  Acts as a liaison and advocate for YMCA membership development.

2.      ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A.     Current First Aid certification.*
B.     Current CPR certification.*
C.     YMCA Child Abuse Prevention and Bloodborne Pathogen Training.*
D.     YMCA Principles of health and fitness.**
E.      YMCA group exercise instructor certification.**
F.      High school education or equivalent preferred.
G.      25 hours of practical experience as a class participant or class assistant.

*Within 30 days of employment or at first available training.
** Within six months of employment or first available offering.

3.      JOB REQUIREMENTS
A.     Ability to uphold the mission of the YMCA.
B.     Ability to instruct group exercise classes
C.     Ability to lead and encourage others.
D.     Ability to effectively communicate information about YMCA programs and opportunities for member involvement to members and participants.
E.      Ability to respond to safety in emergency situations.
F.   Ability to set up, move and store class equipment.   

4.      PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
A.     Leads fitness and/or related classes following Scott County Family YMCA standards and guidelines.
B.     Sets up and takes down class equipment reporting problems to supervisor.
C.     Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivational support and guidance.
D.     Increases participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors.
E.      Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
F.     Attends staff meetings and approved training as required.
H.     Ensures safe and effective workouts responding to, and reporting accidents and incidents.
I.       Accurately completes related record keeping.
K.    May assist with YMCA special events, orientations and other members service related activities.
